Welcome Messages
Dear Colleagues,
It is our great pleasure and honor to express our warmest welcome to all colleagues participating in the T-DDW 2012, which will be held at National Defense Medical Center in Taipei, Taiwan from October 5 to 7, 2012.
Patient-centered healthcare, which requires multi-disciplinary integration, has become the mainstay of modern medicine, and the management of digestive diseases is a prime example of such intergration. Taking care of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, for example, involves the devotion of gastroenterologists, hepatologists, radiologists, oncologists, and surgeons. And the evolution of mini-invasive surgery such as laparoscopic operation plus the wide application of endoscopic resection, such as endoscopic submucosal dissection, have blurred the traditional border between physicians and surgeons. Hence, there is a need for the four digestive societies in Taiwan, namely the Gastroenterological Society of Taiwan (GEST), the Digestive Endoscopy Society of Taiwan (DEST), the Taiwan Association for the Study of the Liver (TASL), and the Taiwan Surgical Society of Gastroenterology (TSSG), to establish a platform for their members to communicate and exchange knowledge with each other. As a result, the Taiwan Digestive Disease Week (T-DDW) was successfully held to provide the optimal venue for sharing and learning from October 7 to 10, 2011 at the National Defense Medical Center in Taipei, Taiwan.
In 2012, another four digestive medicine-associated societies, including the Taiwan Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, the Taiwan Liver Cancer Association, the Taiwan Pancreas Society, and the Taiwan Society of Coloproctology, will actively participate in the T-DDW 2012. Thus, eight societies in total will unite together at this meeting. The T-DDW 2012 congress provides a great chance and opportunity for our leading specialists to share their ideas and experience on various aspects of digestive medicine. The scientific program committee have prepared fruitful programs including the Postgraduate course -- Frontiers in gastroenterology & hepatology; International symposium of new advance of endoscopic diagnosis and intervention of biliary-pancreatic disorders, New treatment for chronic hepatitis C; Early GI neoplasm; Metabolic surgery consensus; Hilar cholangiocarcinoma consensus; GI motility; Multi-disciplinary approach for colorectal Cancer; and Molecular target therapy for HCC; moreover, a lot of world-leading scholars will give us a global perspective on recent advances oOf digestive medicine in our special lecture. In addition to the oral and poster sessions., the young investigator award (YIA) will be provided to encourage the active participation of this meeting from other Asian counties. The winner will receive US$2,000, in addition to complimentary registration to the TDDW 2012 and free accommodation for 3 nights.
As the President of the Taiwan Digestive Disease Week (T-DDW) 2012, I am expecting active participation of our colleagues including gastroenterologists, hepatologists, pediatricians, endoscopists, oncologists, and surgeons from Taiwan as well as invited delegates from all over the world. This forum will offer an invaluable opportunity for sharing the most updated knowledge in all fields of digestive diseases.
I envisage the Taiwan Digestive Disease Week (T-DDW) 2012 will be a fruitful and successful event with your participation.
I am looking forward to seeing you in Taipei in October, 2012.
Sincerely yours!

Professor Jaw-Town Lin M.D. , PhD.
